COURSE PHILOSOPHY:

    GICU is a multicultural discipline. The GICU Mini Course is designed to prepare the new nurse to work competently by enhancing previously acquired professional education and development critical inquiry, knowledge and skills, attributes and competencies to meet the GICU standard of care.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  1. To familiarize the new staff with the GICU environment.
  2. To review the system and identify the alterations in patient’s hemodynamics
  3. To mould new staff to be a Holistic Critical Care Nurse.
  4. Interactive teaching to initiate Critical Thinking.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

    The GICU Mini Course is an interactive eight-hour program that caters to GICU newly joined staff nurses, one year and below. It will be a small group with 6-8 participants with two instructors.

    Evaluation will be done individually through actual patients care performance within a twelve hour shift. Evaluation will determine:

  • Nursing Management of critically ill patient
  • Documentation
  • Critical Thinking
  • Knowledge
  • Time management

    The course will be held every Monday commencing 11th August 2008.
